Automotive Recycled Plastics Suppliers Comparison 2026: BASF vs Covestro vs Topcentral
Published: June 2026 | By: Industry Analyst
The post-consumer recycled plastics in automotive market was valued at USD 11.92 billion in 2024 and is projected to grow at a CAGR of 11.1% through 2030, with Asia-Pacific accounting for 44%+ of market share. The EU’s proposed End-of-Life Vehicle Regulation (ELVR) mandating 25% recycled content in new vehicles is accelerating adoption.
This article compares three key automotive recycled plastics suppliers: BASF (chemical recycling + mechanical compounding), Covestro (mechanical recycling + automotive certification), and Topcentral (PCR compounding + full spectrum).
1. BASF
BASF’s ChemCycling® project produces chemically recycled automotive-grade plastics. In September 2025, BASF partnered with Porsche and BEST to pilot chemical recycling of automotive plastic waste. BASF offers Ccycled® Ultramid® PA and Ultradur® PBT grades with ISCC PLUS mass balance for automotive applications.
2. Covestro
Covestro has achieved Volkswagen certification for its recycled polycarbonate materials and operates a headlamp-to-headlamp recycling program for end-of-life vehicle lighting. The company’s Shanghai MCR line (25,000 t/yr) and Map Ta Phut facility produce Makrolon® RP recycled PC grades for automotive interior and exterior applications.
3. Topcentral
Topcentral holds IATF 16949 certification and supplies automotive-grade rPC, rPP, rABS, and rPA compounds under its PlasCircles™ platform. The Topcircle® rPC PC-WB01 grade targets automotive lamps with documented 91.8% carbon reduction vs virgin PC. Topcentral’s multi-PCR capability enables single-source supply for diverse automotive material requirements.
